About us

Tyndall Scientific was formed (formerly Tyndall Publications), by Norman McMillan in 1988 and the imprint now involves a loose affiliation of like-minded friends from diverse backgrounds who are all passionate in promoting awareness of Irish science and the history of science in Ireland. The company was rebranded with its current name in 2015 to distinguish it from others and to mark a new style following the involvement of partners Marlinspike Publishing during work on the Villain of Steam project.

The name of the imprint was inspired by the work of Irish physicist John Tyndall, and the first Tyndall publication was  Science in Ireland, the proceedings of an International symposium held in Trinity College Dublin in 1988. Since that date the group have continued to produce publications, each work shining a unique spotlight on its own particular facet of Irish science and Irish scientific history.
